  • A practical-to-follow outline of all retirement planning areas you need to consider.

  • Tactical tools at your fingertips for retirement planning.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this workshop:

SECTION 1
RETIREMENT GOAL SETTING

Studies show that when you write out your goals, you improve your chances of achieving them. You’ll get clear on key retirement objectives like:
How do you want to spend your time? What do you hope to accomplish?
Where will you travel?
Who will you enjoy time with?
What hobbies will you engage in?

You’ll begin with some quick exercises to get you thinking (and dreaming).

SECTION 2
RETIREMENT NEEDS & EXPENSES

Your planning foundation includes knowing exactly how much money you’ll need to save to cover your monthly expenses. Most people don’t take the time to do this. Learn how to determine your costs, examine potential retirement income sources, how much you’ll need to save, and, importantly — when you can retire.

SECTION 3
TAX PLANNING

Your income is taxed differently before and during retirement, so I’ll show you ways to lower your taxes during both phases. We’ll also cover potential deductions and which ones may work best. By reducing your taxes, you can save more for retirement and generate more income.

SECTION 4
RETIREMENT INCOME SOURCES

You’ll learn about potential sources of retirement income. We’ll review IRAs, Roth IRAs, and social security and review some rules and strategies to make the most of your benefits.

SECTION 5
RETIREMENT PLAN DISTRIBUTIONS

When you’re retired, you’ll make regular withdrawals, so we’ll review the best way to access these plans and some critical mistakes to avoid. How to handle company stock in your retirement plan and required minimum distribution rules. These decisions are often permanent and can bring penalties if not done properly. If you have a pension plan, we’ll cover how you can get the most out of it.

SECTION 6
INVESTMENTS

You’ll learn about cash accounts, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, and annuities. You’ll understand the benefits and drawbacks of different investment choices. We’ll discuss establishing investment objectives for your portfolio and developing an investment policy statement. We’ll also cover how investments are taxed and how you can minimize the taxation of your portfolio.

SECTION 7
INSURANCE PLANNING

You’ll learn about the various insurance coverage types to maintain before and during retirement — including for long-term care. You’ll also learn how to maintain adequate health insurance coverage, covering Medicare, its costs, Medicare Advantage, Medigap, and Medicare prescription drug plans. Lastly, we’ll demystify the different types of life insurance so you can determine the best policy for you.

SECTION 8
ESTATE PLANNING

What do Howard Hughes and Pablo Picasso have in common? They both died without a will and left their estates in turmoil for years. You’ll learn about wills, whether it’s enough, types of trusts and whether you need one.
